Autopsies are completed at the request of the Lafayette County Coroner in coordination with the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory. The request for autopsy is in conjunction with an active investigation of the circumstances that caused the death.
Completed copies of the autopsy report are provided to the immediate family and corresponding law enforcement agencies by the Office of the Lafayette County Coroner. Turnaround time depends on the amount of current open investigations, availability of the Medical Examiner and whether or not additional testing, such as toxicology reports, are necessary.
