Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection & Disposal Available this Saturday

Do you have old batteries, prescriptions, appliances and chemicals taking up space in your home or garage? This weekend you can get these off your hands at no charge by stopping by the Three Rivers Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

Lafayette County is partnering with the City of Oxford and Three Rivers to provide area residents the opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste and dangerous items at the Lafayette County Multipurpose Arena from 8 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17th. All types of household hazardous waste will be accepted, but disposal for commercial waste will not be offered.

The Lafayette County Multipurpose Arena is located on the east side of Oxford at 70 FD “Buddy” East Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655, near Highway 6 and County Road 406.

In addition to such common hazardous materials as automotive fluids, household cleaners and paint, the list of accepted items includes:

chlorine bleach, computer/electronic waste, detergents, disinfectants, drain opener fluid, engine fluids, fertilizers, furniture polish, gasoline, gas additives, glass cleaner, glues, herbicides, insecticides, mothballs, motor oil, oven cleaner, paints/paint thinner, pesticides, photographic chemicals, propane cylinder tanks, rodent poisons, silver polish, pool chemicals, stains, tires (25 maximum), toilet bowl cleaner, turpentine, tv’s, water sealant, old appliances (such as freezers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, compressors, and water heaters), fluorescent bulbs, metals, and old prescriptions.

Please note: sofas, roofing shingles, any other household trash, biological or infectious materials, explosives, radioactive materials, or unknown substances will NOT be accepted.

Three Rivers Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days provide complimentary waste disposal days to residents of Lee, Pontotoc, Itawamba, Monroe, Calhoun, Lafayette, and Union Counties. Keep in mind that if you cannot make it to this weekend’s event, future opportunities will be offered. Please keep your hazardous waste separate from your general household trash and set it aside for the next Three Rivers Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.
